PB Planning Group Election Changes

Pacific Beach Planning Group general election changes

The Pacific Beach Planning Group is holding their annual general election in March. The PBPG has made several changes to facilitate this years election:

  • Application submission has been extended to March 1. Anyone interested in applying for the election must submit their application to Steve Pruett by March 1, at 6:00pm.
  • All Pacific Beach residents are eligible to vote, and there will be will be two opportunities to cast your vote:
    • Saturday March 9 from 1:00 – 4:00pm, at the Pacific Beach Library @ 4275 Cass Street.
    • Wednesday March 13 from 4:45 – 6:30pm, at the Pacific Beach Library @ 4275 Cass Street.
  • Voting is by individual ballot, and you may vote for as many candidates as there are seats available: if there are 12 persons running and 11 seats available = you may vote for up to 11 candidates. Proof of residence or property ownership is required to vote (drivers license or utility bill). Biographies of each candidate will be available at the polls for your information. They will also be posted to the PBPG website.
  • There will be a PB Planning Group meeting immediately following the close of the polls on March 13, starting at 6:30pm, at the Pacific Beach Library. All Planning Group meetings are open to the public and you are welcome to attend the meeting. The results of the election will be announced during the meeting.

Garnet / Mission Bay Dr traffic improvement

The Garnet / Mission Bay Dr traffic improvement ad hoc committee will hold its first meeting on Tuesday, June 1 from 6:00 – 7:30pm via Zoom. The purpose of the committee is to identify potential vehicle traffic improvements in the area surrounding the intersection of Garnet / Balboa and Mission Bay Drive. Ad Hoc sub committee: Senate Bills

The Senate Bill committee held its first meeting on Thursday, May 27, at 6:00 pm. In attendance were John Terell, Charlie Nieto, Susan Crowder and Steve Pruett. Senate Bill SB9 was reviewed and, based on the committee members comments, a draft position for the PBPG will be developed by S Pruett for review by the committee.

The Senate Bill Ad Hoc committee will hold its second meeting meet Tuesday, June 1 at 4:30 pm, via Zoom. The committee will continue to review SB9 and SB10 for possible recommendation to the full PB Planning Group. Please contact Steve Pruett for login information.

The PBPG has formed a sub committee to review the pending CA senate bills SB9 and SB10. The sub committee will review the bills and consider recommending a position by the PBPG. PBPG Election Update – 05052020

PBPG Election Committee minutes 4/27/2020
The Election Committee meeting was held via Zoom on Monday, April 27 at 5:00 pm.

Attending: Steve Pruett, Ed, Gallagher, Junior Leoso, Luka Leoso, Brian Delon, Judy Pruett

5:00 Call to order 

5:01  non-agenda comments – none.

5:02 Reviewed the amended City Council policy re: seating new board members if there are more seats than eligible candidates

5:10  Reviewed the application log which notes the details for each candidate: name, address, email, date they picked up an application, date application & bio returned, dates they attended PBPG meetings.

5:20  Identified the 3 candidates who are eligible for seating in May, as members of the March General Election process.5:30  Reviewed the remaining applicants who are eligible to fill remaining empty seats once they are declared at the next PBPG meeting.5:40  Next steps: 

  • Steve Pruett to notify the eligible candidates of their status & inform they will be seated at the May PBPG meeting.  
  • S Pruett to notify the remaining candidates of their status and determine if they would like to be considered for the remaining open seats, once they are declared.

The City Council has amended the election process for planning groups. The PBPG will be conducting their 2020 elections in alignment with the revised policy.
The policy states that if the number of approved candidates is less than the number of open seats, the PBPG may seat the new members without a public vote. However, should the number of approved candidates exceed the number of open seats the PBPG will have to conduct voting days as per our by-laws. If required, Voting days and process to be determined as per the city / county health guidelines.
The PBPG election committee will hold a Zoom meeting on Monday, April 27 at 5:00pm to review all candidate applications.
If you would like to attend the Zoom meeting you must contact Steve Pruett (committee chair) via email. He will email the Zoom meeting details the morning of Monday, April 27.
PLEASE NOTE: If you have applied to run in this election you may not attend the meeting, as each candidates application will be reviewed by the committee.

Pacific Beach Planning Group general election changes & update

The Pacific Beach Planning Group will be conducting the 2020 general election as per the amended City Policy. The PBPG election committee will be meeting on April 27, at 5:00 via a Zoom meeting to review all applications. Please note the following:

  • Application submission was concluded on March 11 as previously noted.
  • As per the revised council policy, if the number of approved candidates is less than the number of open seats the PBPG may seat the approved candidates at the next appropriate meeting. Should the number of approved candidate exceed the number of open seats the PBPG will need to conduct voting days to select the new board members. If required, the Voting dates will be subject to city / county health guidelines.
  • The PBPG Election Committee will be meeting on Monday, April 27, at 5:00 via Zoom meeting. Purpose is to review all applications and determine candidate eligibility.
  • If you would like to attend the Zoom meeting you must contact Steve Pruett via email and he will grant you access to the election meeting. PLEASE NOTE: any person who has submitted an application for the 2020 election MAY NOT attend the committee meeting.

PBPG Election committee meeting minutes 1/30/2020

The PBPG election committee meeting held it’s initial meeting on Thursday, January 30, 2020, at the Pacific Beach YMCA, from 5:30-6:30pm.

  • Attending: Steve Pruett, Junior Leoso, Ed Gallagher, Brian Delon = PBPG; Judy Pruett, Luca Leoso
  • 5:30: Call to order, non-agenda public comments – Ed Gallagher is organizing a cleanup for the day after St Patrick = March 18th.
  • 5:40: Reviewed election process and materials
  • 6:00: Discuss election day process
  • 6:20: Open items
  • Next meeting will be the week of February 24th to review all election applications. All applications must be received by February 26th, as per PBPG By-Laws.
  • Any applications received after February 26th will be reviewed if there are any open seats after the March 11 election.
